Migrating to the iPhone 3GS

I think most people can figure out how to migrate all of their existing data off of their old iPhone onto their new 3GS… but for those of you who are braindead can’t figure it out, here are the basic steps:
- Sync your old phone with iTunes – This will create a backup of everything on your phone (call history, email and account settings, SMS messages, etc…).
- Plug in your new iPhone and register it with your iTunes account.
- Perform a restore (instead of registering the new phone as a new iPhone with iTunes).
- Call the 800 number (actually I think it’s a 888 number) supplied with the phone for AT&T activation. Your new 3GS probably came with it’s own SIM card, so you don’t need to remove it from the old phone and insert it in the new one. Once your account has been activated with AT&T, you should be all set.
One problem I noticed was that the UrbanSpoon app on the old phone didn’t come over to the new one by doing the sync/restore in iTunes even though the old phone was set to sync apps. Maybe it was just a fluke.
Search Just Isn’t Search Without Google

Maybe I am “search impaired” when browsing websites other than Google, but I really had to dig to find the below page on Apple’s website:

If you need the basic steps for migrating from a first-gen iPhone into a 3G or 3GS, that’s the link you’re going to want. There’s not much technical info on the page, but it gives a decent overview of what you need to do.
